Subject: Accessibility of Phase I, II, and III Sequencing Data through
GenBank
With regards to the recent release of information about the status of
Phases I, II, and III of our sequencing data, a question has arisen
about whether these data are retrievable and searchable through GenBank.
I append below the official response of Dr. Francis Ouellette, the
GenBank Coordinator, regarding this matter.

Hello Sakis,
Always happy to hear from you. Technically speaking any record with an
accession number (what ever the phase) is part of GenBank, and
retrievable through our various servers.
At this time we are puting phase 1 and 2 records in the HTG division of
GenBank and phase 3 in the organismal division the record belongs to
(PLN for Arabidopsis records).
As far as BLAST searches are concerned, to hit the phase 1, 2 data, you
need to search the 'htgs' database, and for the phase 3 records, you
need to use 'nr' (non-redundant), or 'month' (all new sequences in the
last month, regenerated every day).
I hope this answers your question, always happy to help. Please do
not hesitate to call on us if you have other questions.
cheers,
f.
