Postdoctoral Position

A postdoctoral position is available to study the effects of altered
carotenoid compositions on higher plant photosystem structure and function
in vivo. Novel mutations disrupting key steps of carotenoid synthesis in
Arabidopsis have been previously identified and characterized (Plant Cell
8:1627-1639; 8:1613-1626).  These mutations, singly and in combination,
allow manipulation of the carotenoid composition of higher plant
photosystems in vivo, the most extreme case being replacment of all normal
xanthophylls with zeaxanthin.  In comparison with wild-type, compositional,
structural and photochemical analyses will be performed to provide insight
into the role of specific xanthophylls in photosystem structure and
function in vivo and the abilities of each mutant xanthophyll composition
to respond to supra and sub optimal light conditions.  Previous experience
in carotenoid synthesis is not required but prior experience in either
biochemical or photochemical techniques to study photosystems are
