available in the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics, University
of Minnesota. The project goal is to discover, isolate or construct
promoters that will function in plants to be induced by nontoxic
biodegradable chemicals. This position has responsibility for
developing inducible promoters for genetic engineering inducible
senescence into plants that will be used as weed-suppressing cover
crops. The goal of the project is to use molecular genetics to improve
the effectiveness of cover crops to minimize herbicide use in cropping
systems. Funding is available for two years.

Requirements: Ph.D. in plant biology or related discipline. Experience
in molecular genetics, gene isolation and recombinant DNA methods.

Desired Qualities: A broad knowledge of plant promoter structure and
functions.
