***CALL FOR NAASC NOMINATIONS***
It is time to elect two new members of the North
American Arabidopsis Steering Committee (NAASC). Gloria Coruzzi and Mark
Estelle will retire from NAASC as soon as replacements are elected.
Every North American scientist who subscribes to this Arabidopsis
newsgroup may nominate and vote for 2 candidates.
***DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS - JANUARY 24, 5 PM, EST.
Email one or two nominations to: naasc-election at bio.indiana.edu
Please do not put anything in the message text other than
the names of one or two North American candidates.
On January 27, I will post the names of candidates who have
been nominated and agreed to serve, along with instructions
The following is a brief description of the NAASC, updated slightly from
***ABOUT THE NAASC***
Several years ago, the North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee
(NAASC) was elected by secret email ballot to deal with issues that
require input from the Arabidopsis research community. In recent years
the NAASC has been involved in (1) assisting with an NSF-sponsored
workshop on large-scale sequencing of the Arabidopsis genome (2)
planning the Arabidopsis Conference at the University of Wisconsin in
1995 and 1997. Another job of NAASC is to contribute North
American representatives to the Science Steering Committee for the
Coordinated Multinational Arabidopsis Genome Research Project.
The NAASC currently consists of 6 members:
Gloria Coruzzi (co-chair), Retires 1/97
Mark Estelle (co-chair), Retires 1/97
Pam Green, Retires 1/98
Rob Last, Retires 1/98
Rick Amasino, Retires 1/99
Daphne Preuss, Retires 1/99
Past members include Elliot Meyerowitz, Chris Somerville,
Joe Ecker, Fred Ausubel, Joanne Chory, and David Meinke
Two new NAASC members are elected each year for 3-year terms.
The NAASC chair(s) for 1997 will be elected by the committee
following the selection of new members.
