RE: postdoc: crop plant transformation/molecular biology

Funding is available for a postdoctoral position to participate in a
multidisciplinary team to express viral antigens in transgenic soybean. The
objective is for the viral antigens to elicit an immune response in chickens
fed the transgenic soybean. The genes for the antigenic proteins of
Newcastle disease virus, infectious bronchitis virus, and avian influenza
virus are already available, but additional vector work will be necessary,
as is the engineering of these into soybean and the analysis of the
resulting plants. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in
molecular genetics, along with a willingness to
extend his/her expertise to plant cell culture and genetic transformation of
crop plants. The successul candidate must also be willing to work with
chickens and assist in performing
necropsies. A background in virology or immunology is also helpful. Initial
funding is for one year, with funding the second year contingent on progress
during the first.
