Plant functional genomics
Mendel Biotechnology is an agriculturally-oriented biotechnology company
founded in 1997 with a science advisory board (SAB) consisting of Drs.
Chris Somerville (Carnegie Institution), Fred
Ausubel (Harvard Medical School), Jonathan Jones (Sainsbury Laboratory, UK)
Brian Staskawicz (UC Berkeley), and Elliot Meyerowitz (Caltech). Our aim is
to explore the Arabidopsis genome to discover agriculturally important
genes. Mendel Biotechnology is uniquely
positioned to conduct world class science in the area of plant functional
genomics and to translate these discoveries into traditional and
non-traditional agricultural products. We are
seeking individuals with exceptional creativity, motivation and scientific
abilities to join us in this challenging and exciting opportunity.
Candidates should be exceptional plant scientists with 5+ years of
industrial experience. You will interact with the SAB to advance the
scientific strategy and implementation of the Mendel scientific program.
Candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and
proven leadership abilities. Familiarity with patents, robotics or
informatics is desirable.
Candidates should have a strong interest or experience in plant functional
genomics and have an in depth expertise in plant physiology, metabolism,
biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics or plant development.
Candidates should have the ability to work well in multi-disciplinary

or B.Sc. degree with experience in molecular biology or genetics and the
ability to work well in a team setting. Experience with plants and/or
computer programs is desirable.
Mendel's state-of-the-art gene discovery and plant growth facilities are
situated in the San Francisco Bay area in Hayward CA. Mendel offers an
