                                Postdoctoral Associate
                                Cornell University

Funding is available immediately for a postdoctoral associate to undertake
research on the molecular genetics and physiology of plant aluminum (Al)
tolerance, an important trait for crop production on acid soils. The goal
of this project is to integrate knowledge of Al tolerance genetics,
physiology, and molecular biology. The appointee will study the molecular
genetics of Al tolerance in grain crops, the genetic basis of physiological
Al tolerance mechanisms, and the contributions of these mechanisms to
overall plant Al tolerance. Applicants must have a PhD, and should possess
molecular mapping experience (RFLP, AFLP, QTLs) as well as skill with a
wide range of molecular techniques (eg., differential display, gene
cloning). A background in plant physiology and comparative/functional
genomics would be beneficial. The project is part of a collaborative
research program between Drs. David Garvin and Leon Kochian of the U.S.
Plant, Soil and Nutrition Laboratory and Dr. Mark Sorrells of the
Department of Plant Breeding. Applicants should mail statement of interest,
C.V., and names of 3 references to Dr. David Garvin, U.S. Plant, Soil, and
Nutrition Laboratory, Cornell University, Tower Road, Ithaca, NY 14853.
