Dear netters,

currently two post-doctoral and two graduate student positions are
available at the Institute of Biochemical Plant Pathology, GSF National
Research Center for Environment and Health, Neuherberg-Muenchen, Germany
(http://www.gsf.de/gsf/englisch/index.html):

A 2-year postdoctoral position is availabe in the Xenobiotic Metabolism
Group. The project deals with the metabolism of xenobiotic compounds (e.g
herbicides) in plants. Soluble and cell wall-bound metabolites will be
isolated from whole plants (Arabidopsis, maize) and plant cell cultures
with the aim to investigate their chemical structure. Transgenic and
mutant Arabidopsis plants will be included in the study. In collaboration
with other groups the release and mobility of metabolites in soil or during
digestion in mammals is investigated. Experience in analytical chemistry
(HPLC, GC, and/or MS), plant cell culture, and/ or xenobiotic metabolism is
required. Salary will be according to German BAT IIa.
We ask ambitious young scientist to send their c.v. and the names of two
references to

A 3-year postdoctoral position is availabe in the Secondary Metabolism Group.
The project deals with the secondary metabolism in tobacco (e.g.
phenylpropanoids, alkaloids, terpenoids). Soluble and cell wall-bound
metabolites will be isolated from the whole plant and from cell cultures with
the aim to investigate their chemical structure. Metabolite expression in
various plant tissues in response to factors of environmental stress such as
ozone, UV-B radiation and pathogens will be studied, including possible
transport of metabolites in the plant. Experience in analytical chemistry
(HPLC, GC, and/or MS), plant cell culture is required. Salary will be
according to German BAT IIa.

We are looking for a graduate student in the Molecular Phytodiagnostic
Group. The position is integrated in the Munich-based
'Sonderforschungsbereich 607 - Growth or Defence?' together with the
University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich. The primary
emphasis focuses on control points between primary and secondary
metabolism, as well as cell wall biosynthesis at the molecular biological
level. Important genes have to be cloned and characterized. Transcriptional
studies in barley and potato during growth/defence will be carried out. The
candidate should have a background in molecular biology and biochemistry
and should be familiar with basic techniques of these fields. The position
is limited to 3 years and the salary is according to the German BAT IIa/2.
The position is open until filled. Applicants should send curriculum vitae
to

A second graduate student position exists in the Molecular Phytodiagnostic
Group. The primary emphasis is both on the phytoremediation of
radioactively contaminated soil and a reduced uptake of radioactive ions by
plants. Practical work will include the identification/isolation of genes
involved in these processes and their expression in transgenic plants. As a
model system Arabidopsis will be used. The candidate should have a
background in molecular biology and biochemistry and should be familiar
with basic techniques of these fields. The position is limited to 3 years
and the salary is according to the German BAT. The position is open until
filled. Applicants should send curriculum vitae to
