Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A)/Research Fellow (Level B)

A position is available for a postdoctoral fellow or
research fellow to investigate the molecular and cellular
basis of Phytophthora recognition by resistant plants,
using Arabidopsis as a model plant system. Ecotype
variation in Arabidopsis resistance and race-specific
variation in Phytophthora pathogenicity have recently
been demonstrated, indicating that this host-pathogen
combination is well suited for the isolation of genes for
resistance to Phytophthora by a positional cloning
approach. Genes encoding plant receptors for
Phytophthora elicitins will also be sought. Following
gene cloning, the localisation and function of encoded
proteins will be investigated. Appointment will be for two
or three years, and becomes available in January 2000.
