Postdoctoral
Position--Molecular Genetics of Polar Growth

University of California, Riverside, CA

A
postdoctoral position is available to study signaling pathways leading
polar growth using Arabidopsis pollen as a model system. Recent
studies indicate that a Rop GTPase and calcium act in the same pathway
to signal pollen tube tip growth (Curr Op Plant Biol 1: 525; Plant
Cell 9:1647; Plant Cell 11: 1731; Plant Physiology 118:407). The
postdoc will identify additional components in the pathway using
genetic screen for genes that interact with Rop. Pollen provides a
unique system and many advantages for genetic studies of polar growth
and other fundamental cellular processes, because of the haploid nature
of genetic control of pollen tube growth allowing one to screen mutants
in M1 generation and to study lethal mutations. Successful candidate
will have opportunity to develop independent projects involving the
pollen system. Motivated individuals with strong background in
genetics and/or molecular biology are encouraged to apply. Salaries
are highly competitive. Riverside is located in southern California
and has easy access to ski resorts and ocean. Send CV, publications
and statement of research interest to Zhenbiao Yang, Department of
