A PhD position is available at the Institute of Genetics at the Technical
University in Braunschweig, Germany.
We have shown recently that an anaerobic promoter of maize is strongly
induced in potato tubers under anaerobiosis and in response to infection by
the phytopathogenic bacterium Erwinia carotovora (see Bulow et al., 1999,
Mol Plant-Microbe Interact. 12:182-188 and Kohler et al., 1996, Plant J.
10:175-183). The project will study cis- and trans- factors responsible for
anaerobic and Erwinia induced gene expression and will employ bacteriocidal
genes to increase soft-rot resistance in potato.
The project is funded for at least 3 years and the stipend is equivalent to
approximately USD 1.000,- per month (DM 1.600,- to 1.800,-). The successful
candidate should have some training in molecular biology and must be
eligible to perform his or her dissertation at the University of
Braunschweig.
