Postdoctoral Positions in Plant Lipid Biochemistry/Molecular Biology
Institute of Ecology-Plant Biology, University of Lausanne, Switzerland

One position will focus on the characterization of the degradation pathways
of unusual fatty acids in transgenic Arabidopsis. This research will make
use of the synthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates in plant peroxisomes as a new
tool to study fatty acid degradation. For recent publications on this work
refer to: Mittendorf et al. (1999) Plant J. 21(1), in press; Poirier Y
(1999) Curr. Opin. Biotechnol. 10, 181-185; Mittendorf et al. (1998) PNAS
95, 13397-13402.

The second position will focus on the study of the global expression
pattern of genes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis and degradation in
Arabidopsis. This project will make use of the latest tools in genomics,
including the cDNA microarray technology.

Both positions are available starting January 1st, or soon thereafter, and
are funded for three years pending the start of an EU grant. A strong
background in molecular biology and/or plant lipid biochemistry are
strongly favored. Applications including names and addresses of two
referees should be sent to: Prof. Yves Poirier, IE-BPV, Biology Building,
University of Lausanne, CH-1015 Lausanne, Switzerland. E mail:
