Postdoctoral position in the Department of Biochemistry, University of
Cape Town

Prof Nicola Illing and Dr Jill Farrant are looking for a candidate
to fill a postdoctoral position in their laboratories. The
successful applicant will work on a project to
1. characterise genes that are important for desiccation and
rehydration tolerance in the resurrection plant, Xerophyta humilis.
2. transfer these genes into a variety of plants to see whether they
can confer drought tolerance.

The project is part of a large Innovation Fund Grant, which has been
funded by the Department of Science, Arts and Technology, to develop
drought and pathogen tolerant crops.
The post will be for 2 years, renewable for a third.

The ideal candidate would have a proven research record in molecular
biology, and plant physiology. Please fax us your CV, and names of 3
referees by September 24, 1999, if you are interested in applying for
this post.
