PROFESSOR
MOLECULAR AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PLANT PATHOLOGY

Murdoch University is a young, growing university with 10,500 students and
a strong focus on high quality teaching and research.

The Western Australian State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC) at
Murdoch University is the major centre for agricultural biotechnology in
Western Australia. It has new laboratories, state-of-the-art facilities
for molecular and cellular research, high throughput genetic analyses,
transgenic technologies, genomics/bioinformatics and an excellent research
environment.

Applications are requested for the position of PROFESSOR INMOLECULAR AND
PHYSIOLOGICAL PLANT PATHOLOGY

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and lead a new and well funded
program to conduct basic research at the molecular and physiological level
on foliar diseases caused by necrotrophic fungal pathogens with a long-term
view to developing novel resistance or other control strategies.
The program will be based at Murdoch University but has a national focus
and will collaborate with leading molecular and plant pathology groups
across Australia. It will also have the opportunity to develop strategic
alliances with research groups internationally.
The Professor will have the scope to appoint postdoctoral and postgraduate
staff and develop specific research projects on the molecular and
physiological basis of pathogenesis of important foliar diseases of grain
crops such as yellow spot of wheat, blackleg of canola and ascochyta blight
of pulses.
This is a contract position for 5 years in the School of Biological
Sciences and Biotechnology. Further employment will be subject to a
program review.
The program will enjoy new purpose-built facilities and resources of the WA
State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre. This program is generously funded
with a total investment of $3.2 M over five years.
The successful applicant will have a PhD, a substantial track record of
research output and a detailed understanding of plant - pathogen
interactions at the molecular, physiological and whole plant levels.
He/she will also exhibit enthusiasm, energy and the highest standards of
scientific leadership, communication and collaborative skills. Experience
in managing cross-institutional research linkages would be an advantage.
Although primarily a research position, the applicant will contribute to
undergraduate course development in molecular and physiological plant
pathology. Teaching experience and a successful record of postgraduate
student supervision is also highly desirable.
Interested persons are invited to apply for this position. Murdoch
University also reserves the right to appoint by invitation.
A highly attractive remuneration package is offered, including
superannuation, relocation assistance and salary packaging.
