osmoticum in cell cultures

Hello All,

I am interested in using an osmoticum for my Arabidopsis cell cultures when
I culture them in the absence of sucrose. Mannitol and sorbitol seem to be
metabolized a bit by the cells, at least for a while, so these are
inappropriate as controls. I am considering PEG, but wondering if anyone out
there has had any experience with a good osmoticum?
