Vacancies for a postdoctoral position and Ph.D. studentship at the
Institute of Plant Sciences at the ETH Zurich.
A postdoctoral and Ph.D. position are available immediately in the area
of plant genetics. The postdoctoral position is available for the next
three years. The Ph.D. studentship is funded such that the work should
be completed within three years, although an extension is possible.
Both positions are part of a project where a conditional mutant of
Arabidopsis thaliana induces a suicide programme, which may be clearly
separated from other stress responses, following the triggered
experimental release of O2-radicals. The suicide programme is
well-characterised by a series of "second-site" mutants, which are
variously blocked in the signal transduction of the suicide response,
despite the release of O2-radicals. The signalling pathways involved
will be analysed with the help of these mutants, using molecular genetic
and physiological methods, and their biological significance elucidated.
Part of this project is directed at the charac-terisation of several
genes, whose expression is directly induced by O2-radical release, using
"knock-out" and over-expression stategies.
