PhD student position

A PhD student position is available in my lab at the Institute of
Systematic Botany, University of Mainz, Germany, beginning 01Jan2001for
initially two years with the option for prolongation. The project is part
of investigations on genes controlling leaf margin determination and
dissection in various angiosperms.

The successful candidate will apply a combination of comparative
developmental and molecular genetic approaches to investigate leaf
diversification in Ranunculales. For this aim, the role of Knotted1-like
and Phantastica-like genes in leaf development in this morphologically
diverse group of basal eudicots is studied. For further information please
see my Research Pages http://gleissberg.biologie.uni-mainz.de/

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an interest in plant
development. Experience in molecular biology and/or developmental
morphology is advantageous.

Mainz is located at the Rhine River, approx. 1/2 hr by train from Frankfurt
Int. Airport. The capital of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, Mainz
is a lively city rich in culture and history, with the pleasant climate of
a wine growing region. See http://193.159.161.70/english/index.htm for more.

To apply, please send a CV including a brief description of research
experience and interests, and the names and email addresses of two referees
to Stefan Gleissberg by email (stefan.gleissberg at uni-mainz.de) or by mail:
