POSITION<br>
University of Missouri<br>
Division of Biological Sciences<br>
Columbia, MO<br>
<br>
A postdoctoral position is currently available to studies of the NPH3
protein of Arabidopsis. NPH3 is a novel protein essential for
phototropism in low light conditions that has been found to interact
with the phototropin 1 photoreceptor in vitro and in yeast
(Motchoulski and Liscum, 1999, Science 286:961-964; also see<u>
http://www.biosci.missouri.edu/liscum/LiscumLabPage.html</u> for more
information about the lab). Current research includes
structure-function studies of the NPH3 protein. Large numbers of nph3
mutants are being generated by directed and random mutagenesis and
then assayed via transgenic complementation (or
partial/non-complementation) of known nph3-null mutants. These studies
together with other traditional biochemical and genetic approaches are
being used to elucidate the biochemical function(s) of the NPH3
protein.<br>
<br>
Applicants should have a PhD in biology/biochemistry with experience
in plant molecular biology.&nbsp; Experience with protein chemistry is
certainly a bonus.&nbsp; Interested candidates should send a cover
letter, CV, and names/addresses of three references to Mannie Liscum
(see signature), preferably by email (<u>liscumm at missouri.edu</u>).&nbsp;
The University of Missouri is an equal opportunity
employer.</font></div>
