2 Plant Molecular Biologist Positions
AG Gene Transfer IPK Gatersleben, Germany

The IPK Gatersleben is a public research centre, with the objective to
carry out basic and applied research in the field of molecular plant
breeding (http://www.ipk-gatersleben.de).

The Gene Transfer Group at the IPK Gatersleben
(http://www.ipk-gatersleben.de/englisch/abtl-ags/ipke-gt.htm) has
efficient nuclear transformation systems for the production of
transgenic wheat, barley, rye, ryegrass, red fescue and pea in place.
The selected scientists will work in an international team focussing on
the incorporation of quality traits in cereals and grasses, using
genetic transformation technology. The current openings will be funded
for a period of three years from March 2001 at the scale BAT-IIa-OST.

Since vector construction and molecular analysis of transgenic cereals
with the aim of promotor function analysis (position 1) or crop
improvement for virus resistance (position 2) will be the major
activities of the selected candidates we expect extensive experience
with standard molecular biology techniques. Experience with plant tissue

culture and -transformation is a plus.

Gatersleben is located in the centre of Germany, close to the Harz
mountains and the historic city of Quedlinburg.
