Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and the New Jersey
Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) are seeking an outstanding
scientist for the position of Director of the Biotechnology Center
for Agriculture and the Environment (Biotech Center).
The Biotech Center, founded in 1987 at Cook College, is
internationally recognized for research and training in biotechnology
and the application of biotechnology to problems in agriculture and
the environment. The Center has well-funded research programs in
plant biology, animal science, microbiology, and environmental
science (see http://aesop.rutgers.edu/~biotech/). The Director will
be responsible for ensuring the continued success of these programs
and for developing major new initiatives in biotechnology and
genomics that serve the needs of Cook College, Rutgers, NJAES, and
the state of New Jersey. The Director reports directly to the
University Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The successful candidate will be familiar with recent developments in
biotechnology and its applications, have a record of initiating and
administering successful research programs, and have a vision for the
future of the Center. As the chief administrator of the Center, the
Director will work with the faculty and staff to further expand the
research, teaching, and outreach of the Center. The Director serves
as the primary contact with the University administration,
government, industry, and the public and will work to secure funding
for Center programs, develop public policy, and assist in
transferring technology to industry. The Director is expected to
initiate and implement multi-disciplinary programs involving Center
faculty and other researchers. The Director is responsible for
liaison with other Centers and academic departments at Cook College
and Rutgers University.
