background green fluorescence

Hi,

We are trying to see a green fluorescing fluorochrome released by 
protease activity in Arabidopsis leaf protoplasts, but we find a 
faint green fluorescence background even in our negative controls. Is 
this green fluorescence background normal in Arabidopsis protoplasts?
