Second Announcement
Plant Cell Wall Biosynthesis Meeting
May 12-15, 2002
UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

The NSF-funded Plant Cell Wall Biosynthesis Research Network (WallBioNet)
is organizing a Plant Cell Wall Biosynthesis Meeting that will be held May
12-15, 2002 at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. The purpose of
the meeting is to bring together researchers studying all aspects of plant
cell wall biosynthesis in order to facilitate discussion and to promote
progress in the field. The program will include two invited lectures, short
talks and poster presentations. Due to space restrictions, the meeting will
be limited to 100 attendees. Electronic preregistration is required. The
electronic preregistration deadline is January 11, 2002. The abstract
deadline is February 15, 2002. Full registration with payment is due March
15, 2002.

=46unds are available to cover the registration costs of a minimum of 30
postdoctoral and graduate student presenters who will be selected based on
their submitted abstracts. Funding decisions made by Feb. 28, 2001.
Speakers for each of the sessions will be chosen from the submitted
abstracts.

Preliminary program:

1) Biosynthesis of cell wall components:
	Cellulose
	Hemicelluloses
	Pectins
	Protein

2) Assembly and metabolism of the cell wall
	Assembly
	Wall Enzymes

3) Biological properties of cell walls
	Growth and development
	Plant-microbe interactions
	Adaptation to the environment

The final program will be available
http://xyloglucan.prl.msu.edu/index.html after speakers are chosen from the
submitted abstracts.

=46or information contact Mary Tierney (mtierney at zoo.umv.edu), Debra Mohnen
(dmohnen at ccrc.uga.edu), or Dan Cosgrove (dCosgrove at psu.edu).

PRE-REGISTRATION (deadline January 11, 2002)

Electronic pre-registration can be accomplished by going to the WallBioNet
web site (http://xyloglucan.prl.msu.edu). You will find a pre-registration
form that you can fill out and submit on line. This form will be available
within the next few days. Applicants must preregister by January 11, 2001.
Pre-registration is required to reserve a place at the meeting.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS (deadline February 15, 2002)

All registered participants who would like to present a short talk or
poster should submit an abstract (limit of one per registrant), using the
format indicated below. Abstracts should be no longer that 2000 characters.
An example is provided below. Abstracts must be submitted electronically.
The abstract submission form can be found at
http://xyloglucan.prl.msu.edu/index.html.

Speakers for each of the sessions will be chosen from the submitted
abstracts. When submitting your abstract, please indicate whether you
prefer an oral presentation or a poster. Acknowledgment of submitted
abstracts and whether you will present a talk or a poster will be
communicated to you by email.

=46unds are available to cover the registration costs of a minimum of 30
postdoctoral and graduate student presenters who will be selected based on
their submitted abstracts. Funding decisions made by Feb. 28, 2001. Full
registration with payment is due March 15, 2002.

Oral presentations: (30 min including discussion) will be selected from
submitted abstracts. Overhead, slide (50x50 mm standard slides), and video
projectors will be available. Video presentations should be done using
PowerPoint software. The file should be on a CD or Zip disk. Please do not
bring your presentation in a portable computer in order to avoid problems
arising from computer incompatibilities.

Poster presentations: Posters will be displayed throughout the meeting.
Authors will be requested to be at their poster during poster sessions.
