Dow AgroSciences, a leading company in crop protection and pest 
management located in Indianapolis, has several open scientific 
positions in the Discovery Biochemistry Department.

We seek a highly motivated, customer-focused Protein Biochemist to 
fill a position in the Discovery Biochemistry Department. Qualified 
candidates must have a Ph.D. degree with a minimum of 3 years 
research experience or a Masters degree with a minimum of 5 years 
research experience. The successful candidate will be expected to 
have sound knowledge and experience in the design and production of 
peptide specific polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies. The candidate 
should have a thorough grasp of current technologies used for 
characterization of the antibodies, as well as application of the 
antibodies to discovery research questions in structure/function 
analysis of proteins, drug targets or receptors. It is also expected 
that the candidate will have experience in relevant protein 
purification techniques. The candidate will work in an 
interdisciplinary group, which will require excellent team building 
and networking skills. Excellent communication skills and familiarity 
with various computer software programs (general and technical) will

A Senior Protein Biochemist is sought to fill a position in the 
Discovery Biochemistry Department. Qualified candidates must have a 
Ph.D. degree with a minimum of 5 years research experience in protein 
production. The candidate will lead Discovery Biochemistry projects 
requiring access to intermediate scales of purified recombinant 
protein (up to 1 gram). Experience with prokaryotic and eukaryotic 
expression systems, soluble and membrane associated proteins, 
chromatography, long-term stabilization, and modern techniques of 
protein characterization are essential. Demonstrated success in 
expression and purification strategies to achieve these objectives is 
required. An understanding of requirements for protein scale-up is 
beneficial, to enable successful hand-off of projects needing larger 
quantities of protein. The successful candidate will have 
demonstrated teamwork, small team leadership and basic project 
implementation skills. Understanding of cGMP, GLP or other regulated 
processes is beneficial but not required. The successful candidate 
will also have excellent written and oral communication skills. Job

We also seek an Insect Biochemist to fill a position in the Discovery 
Biochemistry Department. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. 
degree with a minimum of 3 years research experience. The successful 
candidate will contribute to the discovery of insecticidal proteins 
and natural products, and to understanding the mode of action of new 
and novel insecticidal proteins and chemistries. This position 
requires a strong background in insect biochemistry and molecular 
biology (inclusive of current protein expression, purification and 
analysis techniques, as well as cell-based molecular techniques for 
functional protein analysis, reporter assays, and application of the 
techniques for developing robust target site assays). The candidate 
is expected to be familiar with use of protein and genomic databases 
and application of protein informatics software. Experience/knowledge 
of invertebrate tissue/cell culture or neurotoxicology will be a 
distinct advantage, as will be prior industrial research experience. 
The candidate will have excellent communication, team 
working/building, and computer usage skills and should be able to 
work closely with scientists from different backgrounds. Job Code DB-1

We are also looking for a Protein Biochemist to fill a position in 
the Discovery Biochemistry Department. Qualified candidates must have 
a Masters degree with a minimum of 3 years research experience or a 
Bachelors degree with a minimum of 5 years research experience. The 
successful candidate will be responsible for expression and 
purification of recombinant proteins and their subsequent biochemical 
characterization using current bioanalytical techniques. Within the 
area of protein expression, the candidate should be very familiar in 
the practice and knowledge of expression of both soluble and membrane 
bound proteins in prokaryotic, eukaryotic and cell-free expression 
system. Previous experience with expressed mRNAs and cloned cDNAs in 
insect cells or other heterologous systems, as well as familiarity 
with basic molecular cloning techniques are essential. Knowledge of 
and experience in the application of these techniques in drug (or 
pesticide) discovery will be advantageous. The successful candidate 
will work in the Discovery Biochemistry Group contributing to the 
discovery and development of insect resistance traits. It will be 
expected that the candidate have excellent oral and written 
communication skills, be familiar with appropriate software, 
including protein analysis software. Ability to work effectively in 
cross-disciplinary teams is essential. Job Code DB-2
