Alton J. Brann Distinguished Professorship

The Alton J. Brann Distinguished Professorship is a chaired tenured
position in the College of Arts & Sciences.  It carries endowed support
and is to be filled by a distinguished scientist who will influence and
enhance our computational science programs.  Initial appointment will be
at the professor level, although if a suitable junior candidate is
selected it will be at the associate professor level.

We are seeking a scientist who is actively involved in computational
science and who has an interdisciplinary research program in such areas
as bioinformatics, ecoinformatics, computational molecular biology,
ecosystems modeling, computational physics, or computer engineering.
The applicant=92s established research area will complement and build on
existing strengths, and offer an opportunity to develop an active
program around the chaired position that would support post doctoral
fellows, visiting scientists, industry practitioners, and addition
research activities.  Candidates are expected to have a distinguished
research publication record and significant record of external grant
support.  The candidate will have a primary appointment in one of the
doctoral granting departments with a joint appointment, if appropriate,
in one of the other science departments.

	The successful candidate will be expected to:

=A7	Add to the existing strengths in the Sciences and increase UMass
Boston=92s visibility both nationally and internationally in a way that
attracts other scholars to our campus.
=A7	Have an established or emerging national and international
reputation in computational science
=A7	Develop an active research agenda at this campus, initiating and
engaging in collaborative and interdisciplinary programs
=A7	Obtain substantial external research support
