The Gramene database (http://www.gramene.org), is seeking applicants for a full
time position for a plant biology curator who will participate in the
development of structured vocabularies to describe plant morphology, 
anatomy and
development for its Plant Ontology Consortium (POC) project. The Plant Ontology
Consortium (http://www.plantontology.org) is a collaboration among plant
database groups working on rice, Arabidopsis, maize, the Triticeae, legumes and
Solanaceae.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work with a team of
biologists and computer scientists to make educational materials for 
the Gramene
database and collaborating database projects, including TAIR, will 
contribute to
the annotation of phenotypes, germplasms and gene products by using the
vocabularies developed in the project, will participate in the development and
application of methods to streamline and enhance the quality of annotations and
will promote the use of ontologies for applications in comparative genomics and
biology through active participation in workshops, seminars and 
scientific meetings

Requirements: The successful candidate will have an M.S. or Ph.D. degree in
Plant Biology, Botany, Plant Systematics, Plant Development, Plant 
Physiology or
related field; demonstrated ability for independent, critical thinking;
excellent communication skills; ability for teamwork. Experience with cereal
crops or monocots is preferred but not essential. The curator must be able to
travel to attend national and international meetings and PO consortium
workshops. Familiarity with biological data mining, basic UNIX/Linux commands
and commonly used biological research tools is desired. A working knowledge of
SQL would be an asset but not required.
