Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions in the Department of Agronomy and
Plant Genetics, University of Minnesota

Transgenic Disease Resistance in Small Grains. A Postdoctoral Research
Associate Position is available for a highly motivated individual to
investigate resistance to fungal pathogens of wheat and
barley. Specifically, the individual will lead a team focused on genetic
engineering strategies for resistance to Fusarium Head Blight in wheat and
barley. Transgenic wheat and barley carrying antifungal protein genes are
available for study. In addition, a large set of plant transformation
plasmids are available for transforming into wheat and barley. The primary
responsibilities will be transformation of wheat and barley, and analysis
of gene expression and Fusarium head blight resistance in transgenic
plants. The position is available for one year with subsequent years
contingent upon funding and performance. The candidate should have a Ph.D.
in plant breeding/genetics, plant molecular genetics, plant pathology or
related discipline. Experience with plant transformation, gene expression
analysis, and fungal diseases are preferred. Excellent oral and written
communication skills are also desirable. To apply please send by November,
15, 2003 a letter of interest, curriculum vitae and three letters of
reference to Dr. Gary J. Muehlbauer, Department of Agronomy and Plant
Genetics, University of Minnesota, 411 Borlaug Hall, 1991 Upper Buford
Circle, St. Paul, MN 55108, Phone: (612) 625-6228, Fax: (612) 625-1268,

Transgenic Approaches to Functional Genomics of Soybeans. A Postdoctoral
Research Associate Position is available for a highly motivated individual
to investigate and develop transgenic approaches to investigating
functional genomics of soybean seed development. Specifically, the
individual filling this position will lead a team focused on genetic
engineering strategies for discovery and characterization of genes
controlling soybean seed composition. The team includes molecular genetics
and soybean transformation technical support. The position is available
for one year with subsequent years contingent upon funding and
performance. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in plant breeding/genetics,
plant molecular genetics, or related discipline. Documented experience with
Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation and specifically soybean is
preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also
desirable. To apply please send by November, 15, 2003 a letter of
interest, curriculum vitae and three letters of reference to Dr. David A.
Somers, Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics, University of Minnesota,

Soybean Cell Wall Polysaccharide Research. A Postdoctoral Research
Associate Position is available for a highly motivated individual to
investigate the biosynthesis of soybean cell wall polysaccharides. The
individual filling this position will isolate and characterize genes coding
for enzymes involved in synthesis of monosaccharides incorporated in to
pectin and hemicellulose in soybean seed. The position will be supported
by molecular genetics and soybean transformation technical support. The
position is available for one year with subsequent years contingent upon
funding and performance. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in plant
biochemistry, plant molecular genetics, or related discipline. Documented
experience with protein biochemistry, enzymology, carbohydrate research
and/or genomics approaches to gene isolation is preferred. Excellent oral
and written communication skills are also desirable. To apply please send
by November, 15, 2003 a letter of interest, curriculum vitae and three
letters of reference to Dr. David A. Somers, Department of Agronomy and
Plant Genetics, University of Minnesota, 411 Borlaug Hall, 1991 Upper
