  PLANT DISEASE RESISTANCE SIGNALING

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position to 
pursue studies of the Arabidopsis SON1 protein, and the novel disease 
resistance pathway that is activated in son1  mutants (Plant Cell 14, 
1469-82).  Because SON1 is an F-box protein, it is likely that it is 
a component of an SCF complex that targets for ubiquitination and 
proteolysis a positive activator of disease resistance.  As part of 
an NSF-funded project, we are performing genetic, genomic and 
biochemical studies of SON1 to evaluate its role in controlling this 
novel form of disease resistance.

I am seeking a postdoctoral colleague who can join in this 
investigation, and focus on examining the role of SON1 as a component 
of an SCF complex, and perform studies to identify substrates for 
SON1-directed proteolysis.  The ideal candidate will have significant 
experience in protein biochemistry and purification, molecular 
biology and a good understanding of genetics.  Work with Arabidopsis 
and pathogens, is desirable but not essential. Funding is available 
for at least two years, with a competitive salary and full benefits.
