POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION AVAILABLE
  PLANT DISEASE RESISTANCE SIGNALING

  THE UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT
  DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position to
pursue studies of the Arabidopsis SON1 protein, and the novel disease
resistance pathway that is activated in son1 mutants (Plant Cell 14,
1469-82). Because SON1 is an F-box protein, it is likely that it is
a component of an SCF complex that targets for ubiquitination and
proteolysis a positive activator of disease resistance. As part of
an NSF-funded project, we are performing genetic, genomic and
biochemical studies of SON1 to evaluate its role in controlling this
novel form of disease resistance.

I am seeking a postdoctoral colleague who can join in this
investigation, and focus on examining the role of SON1 as a component
of an SCF complex, and perform studies to identify substrates for
SON1-directed proteolysis. The ideal candidate will have significant
experience in protein biochemistry and purification, molecular
biology and a good understanding of genetics. Work with Arabidopsis
and pathogens, is desirable but not essential. Funding is available
for at least two years, with a competitive salary and full benefits.
The position is available immediately.

The facilities are excellent at the University of Vermont, and the
laboratory in which you will work is fully renovated,
well-provisioned, and overlooks the campus and Adirondack Mountains
of NY State. Burlington, Vermont is one of the nation's most
beautiful and desirable cities, and boasts numerous outdoor and
cultural activities (http://www.vermontvacation.com/).

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send by e-mail a CV
with a list of publications, a statement of research experience and
interests, and contact information for three persons who can provide
letters of recommendation.
