Job Announcement

Job Description: Postdoctoral Research Associate

A position is available immediately for a postdoctoral researcher to
explore the transcriptional regulatory networks that control
Arabidopsis light responses. The successful applicant will be expected
to run a laboratory-based project to investigate light-responsive
transcription and regulatory proteins on a genomic scale. Key
laboratory techniques include assaying transcriptional responses using
Q-PCR, microarrays, gel blots and reporter genes, making and
characterizing transgenic plants and mutants, and yeast one- and
two-hybrid analysis. Extensive data analysis, including creating new
databases and programs, will also be necessary to fully understand
this complex system. The researcher will have the opportunity to hone
or develop bioinformatics computer skills including Perl programming,
genome scale DNA sequence analysis, motif detection, biological
statistics and microarray data analysis. There will be multiple
opportunities to attend scientific meetings, and to collaborate with
laboratory and computational scientists on the UIUC campus and at
other institutions.

Training	A PhD degree in a biological or biomedical science is
required. Practical experience with molecular biology is essential,
particularly recombinant DNA technology and RNA analysis. Familiarity
with plant biology, Arabidopsis, transcription, reporter genes,
transgenic plants, particle bombardment, photoreceptors or
computational biology are all advantageous but not essential.

Salary	Commensurate with training and experience. Funding is available
for two years in the first instance, with the possibility of
extension.

Closing Date	For full consideration in the first round of
applications, applications should be received by October 31, 2004. The
position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.

Applications	Applicants should submit a cover letter, a full
curriculum vitae, copies of college transcripts and names of three
referees with email addresses or telephone numbers to:
