DUTIES: The incumbent serves as database Information Technology 
Specialist of the Maize Genetics Cooperation - Stock Center's 
collection and is responsible for coordinating the data operations 
necessary for the acquisition, maintenance, and evaluation of the 
Collection.  Incumbent performs the following duties:  develops, 
maintains, and improves custom web applications for the Stock Center 
to aid the management of the collection, the distribution of genetic 
stocks to the maize genetics community, the curation of scientific 
data in public databases such as the Maize Genome Database and the 
Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) database, and the 
presentation of data from the collection; prepares and analyzes 
yearly planting pedigrees, inventory management, selection of stocks 
for yearly increase production of field notebooks and harvest data 
archival; manages computer hardware and software for the Stock 
Center; performs regular software security and version updates, 
hardware and software troubleshooting, and regular data backups; 
recommends new hardware and software; prepares required annual 
security reports and emergency contingency plans and coordinates with 
administrators of public, scientific databases to provide those 
databases with current, relevant scientific data about the Stock 
Center collection.
