postdoctoral position in maize bioinformatics

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to identify and
characterize genes associated with nitrogen uptake and nitrogen use
efficiency in maize.  The foundation for this work is the large
genetic differences in plant nitrogen metabolism exhibited by the
Illinois Protein Strains, the longest continuous plant genetics
experiment in the world (reviewed in Trends in Plant Science 2004, 9:
358).  The successful candidate will develop an analysis pipeline that
integrates data obtained from large-scale expression profiling
experiments, metabolite profiling, and phenotypic measurements of
physiological responses in both the field and controlled environments.
  In addition, opportunities exist to investigate on a genome scale how
regulatory networks of gene expression have been altered by more than
century of breeding and selection in maize.  The position requires a
Ph.D. with a strong background in the analysis of gene expression and
sequence data, excellent oral and written communication skills, and
the ability to work effectively with industry and academic
collaborators.  Candidates must have demonstrated ability to process
and generate meaningful information from large data sets.  Experience
with bioinformatic tools, relational databases (e.g. SQL) and computer
programming (e.g. Java, C++) or scripting languages (e.g. Perl,
Phyton) is highly preferred.  Funding is available for two years with
the possibility of additional years.
