The School of Biological Sciences invites applications for two tenured
positions as Lecturer in Plant Molecular Sciences. Applicants for these
positions should have a strong background and interest in plant biology and a
track record of research in one or more of the following areas: plant
development, physiology, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry and
metabolomics. Preferred candidates will have expertise in molecular genetics,
use model plants and will be familiar with current trends in plant genomics,
proteomics and/or metabolomics. The appointee is expected to collaborate with
other researchers as well as to establish her/his own research portfolio which
attracts funding and graduate students. The successful candidate is further
expected to teach in the School's academic programme at both undergraduate and
graduate levels.
The School of Biological Sciences currently employs 180 staff and supervises
120 PhD students. Facilities include greenhouses and chambers for plant growth
in controlled environments, as well as state-of-the-art equipment centres for
genomics, proteomics, mass spectrometry and molecular structure determination
(see SBS web site: http://www.sbs.auckland.ac.nz/). The University is situated
in the heart of Auckland, a modern lively city with a beautiful harbour and
beaches, a warm climate and easy access to many outdoor activities.
