The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications from
Ph.D.-level scientists for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

strengths in cellular biochemistry including signal transduction,
protein trafficking/folding, organelle biogenesis, protein
degradation and apoptosis, structure/function of membrane proteins
and protein/nucleic acid interactions are particularly encouraged to
apply. We seek candidates who exploit interdisciplinary strategies,
such as bioinformatics, imaging, and genetics. The successful
candidate will have access to students from several interdepartmental
graduate programs and will be expected to participate in teaching at
the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Town of Amherst is situated in the beautiful, rural Pioneer
Valley of Western Massachusetts, with convenient access to the
metropolitan New York and Boston areas, as well as a multitude of
recreational resources. The Five College Consortium, comprised of
Smith College, Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College, Hampshire
College, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst provides a rich
academic and intellectual environment.

Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a description of research
interests, and three letters of recommendation to: Professor Lila M.
Gierasch, Search Committee Chair, Department of Biochemistry &
Molecular Biology, LGRT 913, 710 N. Pleasant St., University of
Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003-4505. Review of applications will
begin October 10, 2005 and continue until the position is filled.
