**Mechanotransduction in Arabidopsis Workshop during the 17th Annual
International Conference on Arabidopsis Research**

(June 28-July 2nd, 2006, Madison, WI)

A major question in biology is how cells perceive mechanical stimuli such as
touch, gravity, and osmotic pressure. In plant systems relatively little is
known about how mechanical information is transduced into biochemical
information capable of directing the appropriate cellular response. Recent
advances in the field use molecular genetics, proteomics, and live imaging
to investigate mechanical signal transduction pathways. A workshop on this
topic would be an opportunity for researchers in this growing field to learn
about recent data and the latest technical advances. The workshop will
include a series of informal oral presentations by members of the research
community who would be encouraged to present recent, preferably unpublished
data, and to emphasize connections between their work and that of others.

Date: Saturday, July 1st
