Mendel is seeking a highly motivated and creative Plant Biologist to join the research team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in plant physiology/biochemistry and working familiarity with software tools for data analysis. Qualified applicants will be expected to have exceptional organizational and communication skills and a desire to work cooperatively in a team environment.
•Independent design of gene manipulation experiments; qualitative and quantitative analysis of results and database curation.
•Develop genetic and chemical assays with a particular focus on traits that have to do with both nitrogen and water use.
•Participation in project planning.
•Possible management of Research Associates and Lab Assistants.
•Masters or PhD in plant physiology, plant molecular biology or a related discipline.
•Experience in any of the following areas is advantageous:
a. Training in the areas of plant physiology/biochemistry
b. Experience in plant nutrition (e.g. nitrogen metabolism)
c. Mining of large data sets
d. Knowledge of basic biochemical and analytical tools (e.g. enzyme assays, GC-MS, HPLC).
•The ability to make rapid progress against goals within tight timelines, to prioritize under pressure and to adapt to changing demands are crucial skills for this role
•The ability to work in a team-oriented environment as well as independently.
•Excellent communication and documentation skills.
•Strong critical thinking abilities.
•Authorized to work in the United States.
