[Arabidopsis] US Early Career Travel Awards for ICAR 2013- Sydney. Deadline Feb. 1 to apply

Call for Applications: Travel Supplements for Early Career US researchers
to the Arabidopsis Conference in Sydney, Australia (June 24-28, 2013)
Applications due: Feb. 1, 2013 by email.

The North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee (NAASC) has applied to
the U.S.National Science Foundation (NSF) for funding to aid researchers
from US labs to attend the 24th International Conference on Arabidopsis
Research in Sydney, Australia

On behalf of the entire community, we thank the NSF for their generous
continuing support. Assuming these requests are funded, the NAASC intends
to provide up to 8 awards of $1,850 each to help defray travel costs to
the meeting.  NAASC members will review and select awardees from among
eligible applications received by the deadline.

 Since these awards by themselves will be insufficient to pay for the
entire meeting other funds must be available to the applicants to cover
the additional costs. Awards will be announced before the early
application deadline of March 1, 2013, but will be paid as reimbursements
following the meeting and submission of travel documents and receipts (in
accordance with NSF requirements).

(1) Applicants must be full-time plant biology researchers in accredited
US universities or institutions and must be US citizens or permanent
residents. (2) Only graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and
early-career PIs (in the first 2 years of first academic appointment) will
be considered. (3) Applicants must submit an abstract to the meeting (for
poster presentation and/or oral presentation) and make an oral or poster
presentation. You do not have to submit an abstract to the conference
before award notifications are given but if selected, you must submit an
abstract before the final deadline of March 1, 2013. (4) Applicants from
NSF AT2010-funded labs will be given lower priority for funding.

Selection Criteria:
(1) quality of the science and research abstract, (2) strength of the
curriculum vitae,  (3) strength of the recommendation letter (not required
for faculty applicants), (4) whether the applicant has received conference
funds from NAASC before, (5) ethnic and gender diversity, (6) strength of
the statement about how attending the meeting will impact the applicant¹s
research and/or career.

Important Notes:
Applications must be received by email by February 1.  Applicants will be
notified of decisions by February 22. Travel costs will be reimbursed
after the conclusion of the meeting (original receipts and itineraries
must be submitted before reimbursements can be given to comply with NSF
requirements). Notifications will be sent to ALL
applicants (including those not selected) by 7 days before the reduced
registration fee deadline so you may register at the lower cost even if
your application is not selected.

Submit the application as one emailed file (recommendation letter may be
emailed separately). The early deadline for reduced registration fee is
March 1 though you
may register beyond that date at a higher cost (see conference website).
Attendees must have a valid passport and a visitor visa or travel
authority to enter Australia (Check

Passports and visas may take several months to acquire. Once you register
for the meeting, you may request an invitation letter (from ICAR 2013

If you are unable to attend the meeting due to lack of proper travel
documents, or any other reason, you will not receive the award funds.

undergraduate, graduate education, degree attainment, and professional
appointments, and should include awards/fellowships, scientific
presentations given, relevant activities and up to 5 recent publications.
3.Advisor¹s Letter of Recommendation (not required for faculty) including
level of funds available, if any, to cover remaining travel costs since
this award is insufficient to cover all costs.
4.Title and brief research abstract that you plan to present at ICAR (up
to 300 words)
5. Paragraph (up to 250 words) describing why attending the ICAR is
important to you and your career

Please note that the Fly America Act requires that US federal funds may
only be used to support air travel by US flag carriers. You must use a
US-owned carrier for air travel reimbursement.
