[Arabidopsis] re: plastids in pollen

there are proplastids in pollen (e.g. see
http://pcp.oxfordjournals.org/content/50/4/904.full.pdf); people that do
microspore culture to regenerate plants are using earlier stages of pollen
development (microspores), not mature pollen. Presumably the proplastids
differentiate into functional chloroplasts when plants are regenerated from
microspore cultures.
