The symposium focuses on new insights gleaned from analyzing arthropod genomes and is designed for scientists interested in genomic studies of Arthropods, both model organisms and those of agricultural or health relevance. The program will include platform presentations, a welcome reception, a bioinformatics-related workshop and arthropod genomics-related poster sessions. Postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students are also encouraged to attend.  Sessions conclude Saturday evening, followed by an optional Kansas City Barbecue banquet.

MAY 30, 2012 (Wednesday morning) to MAY 31, 2012 (Thursday afternoon) 
“i5k Community Workshop:  An international effort to sequence 5,000 of the world’s key arthropod species.”  The Workshop will aim to bring together biologists, informaticists, and policy-makers to discuss and contribute to advance planning for the i5k initiative.  Plans for the i5k Workshop include presentations by top genomics and bioinformatics researchers and representatives from the primary sequencing centers, followed by training and breakout sessions focused on i5k and other successful insect genome projects.  The Workshop will conclude with a discussion of white papers and programmatic steps needed to enact i5k projects.
