The reflex decay question is of interset to me because a fellow
audiologist and I have also had several discussions on the topic. Her
belief was that ipsi-decay should not be done because of distortion in the
measurement. My feeling was it should be as accurate as an ipsi reflex
measure. I have done ipsi and contra decay on many people and have found
both measures to be reliable. Confirmed 8th nerve lesions gave predictable
decay responses. (Nothing like reporting subjective data!!)

I like having both ipsi and contra information especially if I am
seriously looking for retrocochlear information. In conjunction with
reflex thresholds it can help clear up the picture when used in
conjunction with ABR. I would love to know of a good study that evaluated
this issue. Anybody know of some????
