well, *some* programmables are very expensive -- especially those with
multiple channels.  however, a single-channel aid can cost approximately the
same as a standard aid that includes compression and one or two trim pots.
with all the extra convenience of not having to use a screw driver, i
usually choose to order a programmable over a standard.
