Greetings folks...

I has been asked to post info on the ASHA listserve that recently went on-line.
Here is the info I received.

Subject: announcement of ASHA Audiology Hotlines

NOTE: Please invite audiology bionet members to join us on
ASHA's audiology hotlines via LISTSERV.

A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ASHA AUDIOLOGISTS --

ASHA AUDIOLOGY ELECTRONIC HOTLINES ARE UP AND RUNNING!

WELCOME TO A NEW AGE IN COMMUNICATION FOR ASHA
AUDIOLOGISTS

Rev up your computer, plug in your modem, tap your keyboard or move
your mouse-- you've now joined your colleagues for interactive
electronic communication. News, dialogue, facts, and information that
affect the daily lives of audiologists are at your fingertips through the
wonders of Internet and ASHA's 3 Audiology Hotlines! (FEE FREE!)

ASHA is pleased to offer its members electronic mailing lists that will be
accessible to any audiologist who has the computer hardware and
software capability to send and receive Internet electronic mail (e-mail).
This technology is known as LISTSERV.

HOTLINES = LISTSERV

The LISTSERV approach is different from an electronic Bulletin Board
System (BBS) in that you will not need to *dial in* to another computer to
participate in the on-line discussions. A BBS is similar to going to a
library to read a magazine. LISTSERV, on the other hand, is comparable
to subscribing to that magazine * you will automatically receive
every "issue" after you subscribe. Unlike a magazine, however,
LISTSERV technology allows members to contribute *articles* that are
then *published** i.e., sent to all subscribers - faster and more often
than is possible with printed materials.

A list may or may not be "moderated". The 1 "unmoderated" list accepts
and distributes all e-mail from any subscriber to the full list. In a
moderated list, all messages are monitored to make sure the message is
relevant to subscribers.

CHOOSE TO SUBSCRIBE TO 1, 2 OR ALL 3!

1 asha-aud-forumThis is an unmoderated list available for all
subscribers to discuss any issue an individual chooses.

2 asha-aud-focusThis particular list is used to discuss a specific topic
for a designated timeframe. Discussion topics will be "published" by the
list administrator with contributions by any subscriber available for
reading by all subscribers.

3 asha-aud-headlinesThis is a moderated list used for providing
information about ASHA activities, products, actions, and other specific
and general information related to ASHA member audiologists.

SUBSCRIBING IS EASY --

ASHA Audiologists may subscribe to an electronic mailing list by:

 	* sending e-mail (from any system that can reach Internet
addresses; e.g. CompuServe, America Online, university-based e-mail
system, etc.) to the following e-mail address for each desired list:

		1 asha-aud-forum-request at postman.ncm.com

		2 asha-aud-focus-request at postman.ncm.com

		3 asha-aud-headlines-request at postman.ncm.com

	* Next enter the following text as your e-mail message:

                         subscribe (Firstname Lastname)

For example, if Jane Smith with e-mail address, jsmith at school.edu,
wanted to subscribe to the Audiology Focus List, she would send the
following e-mail:

To: asha-aud-focus-request at postman.ncm.com

From: jsmith at school.edu

Message: subscribe (Jane Smith)

Do not include any other text in the message. Don't forget to send
separate e-mail messages to subscribe to the other lists. Your e-mail
address is added to each hotline list automatically and you will be sent a
message indicating that you have been successfully added to the list. At
that time, you will receive all messages sent to each individual hotline.

HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR REMARKS

Contributions will be accepted for both the asha-aud-forum and
asha-aud-focus lists. ASHA staff will make submissions to the
asha-aud-headlines list.

	* Send your e-mail submissions to either the
asha-aud-forum or the asha-aud-focus lists, which will automatically be
distributed to all list subscribers, to:
        	             asha-aud-forum at postman.ncm.com

	                                or

     	  asha-aud-focus at postman.ncm.com

To remove yourself from any list, send e-mail to the list and only enter the
following as your *subject*: Unsubscribe
You may rejoin the list at any time following the above instructions.
