Digital hearing aids for severe to profound hearing loss ?

My 5 year old son haa bilateral severe-to-profound sensorieural hearing 
loss. He is using a conventional hearing aid for one year.

Is it possible to use a digital hearing aid even with severe-to-profound 
hearing loss ?
