PE tubes do not obviate the danger of wearing earplugs. The eusthacian tube
will close during a dive and the earplug would be wedged into the ear canal
by the water pressure.  A PE tube in the ear drum is a perforated ear drum
and this is a medical contraindication to diving. Hal Reuter in Houston (of
Reuter Bobbin ear tube  and Reuter dive table fame) one the expert to ask.
