Bone Conduction Aids

I am currently redesigning a bone conduction aid for children born with
cogenital atresia. The actual headband hearing device is extremely
visable and makes children who wear it very uncomfortable, especially
boys in junior high school. Often times these children with above
average intelligence fail out of school due to the fact that they do not
wear the hearing aid because it makes them look abnormal. This is a
wonderful design project as an industrial design student. Do you know if
the bone oscillator has to be worn on the mastoid bone or can it conduct
sound through any other bones? Any information you may have would be
appreciated.
