Hearing loss - types - medical analysis

About 20 years ago I read that there were three major physical/medical
types of hearing loss.
When I was 15 years old I discovered (by audio test) that I was
essentially totally deaf (70 db down) at frequencies above 3,000 Hz
while below 3000 hz my hearing was reasonably good. As far as I know I
had not been exposed to any loud noises and have no other family
members with this problem.
Any ideas on diagnosis or recommendations?
Thanks.
