377 PE/ABI plates

Hello all, 
I'm new here and the questions I'm going to ask are probably well
known and have already beed discussed inlength, but please bear with
me.

Does anyone know what causes 'holes' to appear in gel images? and can
they be avoided? The size standards just seem to drop out in patches
ruining the gel. - Could this this be due to there being unwanted
contaminants such as bleach etc running thru' the gel?

Secondly, could anyone reccommend a supplier of plates for the 377?
I have read on this group recently that there are several alternative
suppliers, so I would greatly appreciate information.
