Bioinformaticist position at Calgene

     Calgene, an agricultural biotechnology company located in Davis, CA. 
     has a position open for a Bioinformaticist.  The primary 
     responsibility entails support of a Sun Enterprise server and 
     associated software. The software includes GCG, proprietary plasmid 
     and sample tracking software, and web based interfaces to a variety of 
     databases and molecular biology analysis packages.  The 
     Bioninformaticist will also write or modify existing software in 
     support of research projects.  A major responsibility involves 
     training research scientists and assisting them with data analysis.  
     
     Education: Advanced degree in the sciences desired (Bioinformatics or 
     Computer Science preferred; Molecular Cell Biology, Physiology, 
     Genetics, or Biochemistry with a solid computer background also 
     considered). A strong background in the analysis of DNA and protein 
     sequences.
     
     Computer skills should include knowledge of UNIX, SQL, Perl, C++, and 
     Web development. MS Visual Basic and Oracle skills would be a real 
     plus.  Skills should also include use of the Microsoft Office 
     software.  
     
     Excellent communications skills are required as this position will 
     require significant internal customer contact.  Occasional 
     presentations would be required.
