premier sequence analysis software

What kind of computer is the U replacing your vax with?  If its a Unix
system, how about phred, phrap and consed for analysis and editing of
the abi chromat files?  They are avalailable from U.W. through phil
green and david gordon.  I think they are free and consed is a great
editor.
