No EP voltage detected - eh?

Has anyone seen the "No EP voltage detected" error during a run?  To me it
implies a short, but ABI suggested a buffer problem.  It's not the buffer
(the
same gel with the same buffer runs fine on another 377) and now ABI (and
I)
are mystified.  The engineer is on his way, but I wondered if anyone else
had
had a similar experience?
