The Institute for Biosciences, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (IB3)
at George Mason University, near Washington USA, is hosting a 3 day
course titled "Sequence Project Management using the Staden Package"
on March 29th to March 31st.
The course is very practical and overs the use of Pregap4 and Gap4 for
DNA sequence assembly and finishing. Participants will be guided
through exercises during which they will process a substantial set of
sequence data obtained from DNA sequencing machines.
We will cover setting up of a new sequencing project, pre-processing
data generated by automatic sequencers, creating sequencing project
databases, automatic assembly of batches of readings into contigs, and
checking and editing contigs. Checking will include examination of the
traces for high confidence but conflicting readings, earches for
repeated sequences, and analysis of the relative positions of readings
derived from the same template. Phred confidence values are used for
rapid error checking and "finishing".
More details are available on the IB3 web site, which has a home page
of "http://www.ib3.gmu.edu/". Follow the links from there to
