The UK HGMP Resource Centre provides specialist resources
and services for scientists engaged in genome mapping and
gene isolation studies. It also has an active and
developing Research Division. The Unit is located on the
Genome Campus in Hinxton, near Cambridge, in pleasant rural
surroundings and offers excellent sports, social and
recreational facilities.
Mouse Sequencing Team Leader: A key position has become
available at the core of the UK Mouse Sequencing Consortium
at the HGMP-RC. This prestigious project also involves the
HGU (Edinburgh), MGC (Harwell), Imperial College (London)
and Sanger Centre (Cambridge) and is described at:

The successful candidate will lead a close-knit team of 7
staff involved in all stages of the sequencing project from
sub-cloning, DNA prepping and sequencing to operating ABI
3700 Capillary Sequencers. In addition he/she will manage
the project database and work in partnership with the
computing team. Furthermore he/she will liaise closely with
the Finishing Team Leader and report to the Group Leader.
The post is available until 30 September 2002 in the first
instance.
The post requires a good knowledge of all aspects of genome
sequencing, with physical mapping skills and experience in
working with databases also being an advantage. Good people
management skills are essential. A PhD in a related area of
Molecular Biology is expected.
The starting salary is likely to be in the range of
18,000-25,000 GBP per annum (MRC pay band 4). An optional
pension scheme is available.
